Nitroalkyd resin lacquers comprise 100 grams of a nitroalkyl resin lacquer and 3 grams of a Ca, Mn, or Ca/Mn lake of one of the following monoazo dyes. <FORM:1108249/C3/1> <FORM:1108249/C3/2> The lacquers may be sprayed.ALSO:The invention comprises Ca, Mn or Ca/Mn lakes of the following two monoazo dyes. <FORM:1108249/C4-C5/1> <FORM:1108249/C4-C5/2> The preparation of the monoazo dyes by diazotization and coupling is described and the lakes are formed by adding an appropriate Ca and/or Mn salt, e.g. calcium chloride, to the coupling mixture when coupling has been completed, followed by heating at 90 DEG C.
