A ventilation grille for extracting hot air from rail vehicles comprises two rows 4 and 6 of ribs of the cross-section shown arranged with the crests of the ribs 4 directed towards the outside of the vehicle so that external air flow along the vehicle causes air to be extracted by induction as shown by the arrows. The grille may be in a side wall of the vehicle with the ribs vertical, or may be at the edge of the roof, Fig. 3a (not shown), with the ribs sloping. In the latter case angle section ribs (9), Fig. 4a (not shown), are included on the vehicle interior side of the ribs 6 with their included angles directed towards the ribs 6. Drainage openings 22 are provided at the lower ends of the ribs 4. Preferred dimensions are disclosed.
