[Also in Division E2] An electric motor driven mechanism 1 for operating windows, doors, louvres, ventilators etc. and mounted on or near a fixed frame thereof, comprises a reversible electric motor 8 the armature shaft 9 of which drives through worm, bevel or spur gearing, or direct (Fig. 11, not shown), a nut 12 threaded at (17) on a spaced helical lay of a multi-core push-pull cable 15 in a conduit 16 and connected at the other end by a thimble (18) direct to the movable window frame (20) (Fig. 6, not shown). In Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown) windows pivot about axes A-A at the top, middle and side respectively whilst in Fig. 4 (not shown) is a sash window. As shown, and in Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the mechanism is secured to the fixed window frame. For the sash window in Fig. 4 (not shown), two cables 15, extending one to each side of the sash, are driven in opposite directions (Fig. 9, not shown) from the armature shaft 9 through a pinion (25) and gears (24) meshed to oppositely rotate nuts (23) on the cables 15. In Fig. 10 (not shown) a single cable is similarly driven from the armature shaft. In Fig. 11 (not shown) the cable 15 is driven by a thread (17) internally formed in the armature shaft 9. Limit switches may be arranged to stop the motor when the window is fully open or closed or at part openings, and a number or group of adjacent windows may be controlled by a common switch. |
