<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for enabling specific object detection at high speed regardless of the size of an object to be detected in an image. <P>SOLUTION: A first image is recursively reduced, thereby generating second to N-th images. Subject detection processing is performed on each of the first to N-th images. At this time, among respective image regions on the m-th image (1≤m≤N), an image region associated in advance with the m-th image is used as a target image region.
