<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress toner which passes through a cleaning blade according to the deterioration of durability of the cleaning blade, and thereby suppress image defects attributed to the pass-by toner. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: toner pattern forming means for forming a toner pattern on an image carrier for detection; a blade for removing toner left on the image carrier; detection means which is provided in the downstream side of the blade in the rotation direction of the image carrier, and which detects information related to a toner amount on the image carrier having passed by the blade; and control means which allows the toner pattern forming means to consecutively form a first toner pattern and a second toner pattern whose toner amount per unit area is larger than the first toner pattern, and controls to determine cleaning conditions of the image carrier on the basis of the information related to the toner amount which has passed through the blade in the first and the second toner pattern detected by the detection means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
