The air cleaner is provided with: a main case (1) with an air intake port (4) and outlet port (5); a fan (11) that draws air in from the air intake port (4) and blows air out from the air outlet port (5); a fan motor (12) that drives the fan (11); a time-measuring means (15) for measuring the cumulative running time of the fan motor (12); a de-odorizing unit (9) provided with an odor removal catalyst; a heating unit (10) for regenerating the catalyst; a control unit (19) for controlling the driving and stopping of the fan motor (12) and the starting and stopping of heating by the heating unit (10); an odor sensor (6); and an odor level-measuring means (16) for measuring the odor level using the odor sensor (6). The air cleaner is configured so that if, when the cumulative running time of the fan motor (12) exceeds an established time (T1), the odor level detected by the odor sensor (6) is less than or equal to an established odor level, heating by the heating unit (10) is started, and if the odor level exceeds the established odor level, heating is not started.
