PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for promoting the production and secretion of adiponectin which is a cytokine known to be closely related to life-style related diseases such as circulatory system diseases, diabetes and obesity.

SOLUTION: The adiponectin production-secretion-promoting agent includes helipyrone A represented by the formula as an active ingredient. The promoting agent is preferably an oral agent. The promoting agent is effective as a postprandial blood glucose-improving agent or a diabetes-treating agent.
