<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective process for production of a dihydroxy compound with high conversion rate to the dihydroxy compound from 4-(4-hydroxycyclohexyl)phenol. <P>SOLUTION: The process for production of the dihydroxy compound shown by formula (3) (wherein R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>through R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a 1-3C alkyl group) includes reacting a hydroxybenzoic acid ester shown by formula (1) (wherein R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>through R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a 1-3C alkyl group and Z represents a 1-5C alkyl group) with 4-(4-hydroxycyclohexyl)phenol in a solvent without having a hydroxyl group in the presence of a titanium compound and/or a tin compound. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
