<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quartz burner and a method of producing a glass preform for optical fiber, wherein: impurities adhering to the glass preform can be reduced when the glass preform is subjected to fire polishing; and irregular points occurring in the optical fiber at drawing can be reduced. <P>SOLUTION: A burner 20 used at the fire polishing of a surface of the glass preform 14 for optical fiber is formed of a high-purity quartz material (SiO2). In the impurities contained in the pure quartz material when the quartz burner is produced, an average mass concentration of iron (Fe) is 0.3 ppm or lower. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
