The device has a passive component (10) comprising a readable radio frequency identification (RFID) tag (10B) that is coupled to a writeable persistent memory (10A). The writeable persistent memory is coupled to an active write circuit (11A) of an active component (11). A microcontroller is provided in active write circuit. The write circuit is arranged for writing vehicle-related data in predetermined storage areas of persistent memory during active operating condition of vehicle (1). The data stored in persistent storage is read during passive condition of vehicle. An independent claim is included for method for storing and providing vehicle-related data of vehicle.
