The method involves initially separating a length of a round log (10) into log halves, again into log quarter parts (11), and finally into wedge boards. The separation of the round log into the log halves, and the separation of the log halves in the log quarter parts are performed by dull-edge parallel cuts under discard of a longitudinal wedge (13), which lies between the log halves and/or the log quarter parts. The log quarter parts are supplied to a separation belt saw with vertical or horizontally aligned saw blades for separation into the wedge boards.
