<p>Provided is a soft-magnetic alloy for use in a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, said alloy having a high saturation flux density at high temperatures with respect to the saturation flux density thereof at room temperature. Said alloy contains the following: one or more lanthanide elements, which have atomic numbers from 57 to 71; and one or more elements selected from among yttrium, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, and boron and/or one or more elements selected from among carbon, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, chromium, manganese, nickel, copper, zinc, gallium, germanium, molybdenum, tin, and tungsten. The remainder of said alloy comprises cobalt, iron, and unavoidable impurities. The atomic percentages of the constituent elements satisfy each of the following relations: (1) 0.5 <= TLA <= 15, (2) 5 <= TLA+TAM, and (3) TLA+TAM+TNM <= 30, with TLA representing the sum of the atomic percentages of the lanthanide elements, TAM representing Y+Ti+Zr+Hf+V+Nb+Ta+B/2 (with only the atomic percentage of boron halved), and TNM representing C+Al+Si+P+Cr+Mn+Ni+Cu+Zn+Ga+Ge+Mo+Sn+W.</p> |
