An artificial marble is provided to solve the demerit of a natural material deficient in chemical resistance and fouling resistance by treating the natural material with a chemical-resistant and fouling-resistant resin. An artificial marble comprises natural material chips of which the all or partial surfaces are treated with a transparent resin, and a base resin. A method for preparing the artificial marble includes the steps of: preparing the natural material chips of which the all or partial surfaces are treated with the transparent resin; adding the natural material chips to a base resin composition to prepare a curable composition; subjecting the curable composition to pressure reduction and de-aeration; and curing the resultant composition. Further, a light permeation ratio of the transparent resin is 70% or more. |
