<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet processing apparatus in which a sheet can be subjected to standby processing without making an alignment failure occur, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: While a sheet on an intermediate processing tray 138 is processed, a plurality of sheets to be processed next are kept on standby by a standby part 100C arranged between the intermediate processing tray 138 and a conveyance roller 110 and a separation roller 111.
