PURPOSE: A composition containing carbon monoxide or a carbon monoxide donor for preventing or treating diseases induced by ER(Endoplasmic Reticulum) stress is provided to promote ATP production in mitochondria, and to relieve ER stress. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating diseases induced by ER stress contains carbon monoxide or a carbon monoxide donor. The carbon monoxide donor is selected from the group consisting of RuCO(ruthenium carbon monoxide), CORM1(Mn2CO10:manganese decacarbonyl), CORM2((Ru(CO)3Cl2)2), CORM3(Ru(CO)(3)Cl(glycinate)), and CORM-A1(sodium boranocarbonate).
