<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute sufficient recover even if a negative pressure is increased in a head tank by a recovery operation by an suction and discharge. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus, when executing suction and discharge operation, determines whether a first sensor 251 detects a first detection position 205a of a displacement member 205. When the first sensor 251 detects the first detection position 205a of the displacement member 205, the image forming apparatus drives a liquid feeding pump, feeds liquid from a main tank to the head tank 35 of a recording head executing the recovery operation and subsequently determines whether the first sensor 251 detects the second detection position 205b of the displacement member 205.
