摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material including a complex oxide of lithium and bismuth and having a capacity equal to or higher than those of LiCoO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>and LiNiO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery manufactured using the positive electrode active material. <P>SOLUTION: In a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, an electrode group, which comprises a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate wound or laminated via a separator, is sealed in a battery case together with a nonaqueous electrolyte, the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate including an active material layer which contains an active material capable of at least absorbing and desorbing lithium and is formed on a surface of a core material. The positive electrode plate includes, as the active material, a lithium-bismuth complex oxide having a composition represented by general formula (1), so that a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having high capacity can be obtained.
