A controllable submersible system which, in one variant of the system, involves a modified wheelchair 1 which allows its occupant to descend into, and ascend out of, water, and to travel in the water, at various depths, or on the surface of the water. According to the present invention, a wheelchair is provided with a propulsion means P1, P2 and a steering mechanism for controlling the orientation of the wheelchair and the descent into, and ascent out of, a body of water. The steering mechanism may include one or more hydroplanes GP1, GP2 attached to modified footrests FP1, FP2 of the wheelchair. One embodiment comprises modifications made to a typical wheelchair in order to allow the fitting of propulsion units and controls therein, and to allow flexible movement in various directions in water under full control of the occupant of the wheelchair. A further embodiment enables the wheelchair to be remotely operated by someone other than the wheelchair user. |
