[Also in Division H1] An oven for curing paste resistors heats the resistors at a first relatively high rate of temperature increase in a first zone of the oven, then at a second, lower rate, in a second zone, then holds the temperature at the firing temperature in a third zone, then allows the resistors to cool in a fourth zone. The first rate, e.g. at 30-60‹ C./min. is through a temperature range where a high rate will not cause damage, e.g. up to the softening temperature (e.g. 650‹ C. for glass-based resistors), and the second rate is 10-25‹ C./min. The oven has a conveyer belt 22 travelling at a uniform speed and a series of heating elements 26 controlled by controllers 30 responsive to signals from thermocouples 28. The resistor paste comprises glass frit, a metallic conductor (see Division H1) and an organic vehicle which is burnt off during firing. |
