The present document relates to packet optical telecommunication networks. In particular, the present document relates to packet optical add drop multiplexers. A packet optical add drop multiplexer (300, 400, 500), referred to as POADM, is described. The POADM comprises a de-multiplexer / multiplexer unit (301) adapted to de-multiplex an optical signal propagating in the downstream direction from a optical multiple wavelength signal propagating in the downstream direction; and multiplex an optical signal propagating in the upstream direction into an optical multiple wavelength signal propagating in the upstream direction; an optical gate (306, 406), downstream of the de-multiplexer / multiplexer unit (301), adapted to erase light within a pre-determined time interval from the optical signal propagating in the downstream and the upstream direction; and a reflector (307), downstream of the optical gate (306, 406), adapted to convert the optical signal propagating in the downstream direction to the optical signal propagating in the upstream direction. |
