A cigarette comprises a tobaccocontaining portion 4 and a tubular bit portion 6 providing a smoke passage 10, the bit portion having passageways providing communication between the exterior of the bit portion and the smoke passage. The passageways may be grooves 8, circumferential openings (Fig. 3, not shown) or may be formed by crimping the inner surface of the tubular bit 6 (Fig. 7, not shown). A cylindrical member 30 may be fitted into the passage 10. The member 30 includes a pair of annular grooves 32, 34 and has radial slots 36 tapered to converge from the upstream to the downstream end of the cylinder 30. Smoke drawn from the tobacco portion 4 is thus mixed with the air drawn through the grooves 8 in the member 30. |
