A method of applying a coating medium to a surface of a 4-methyl pentene-1 polymer comprises contacting the surface with a solution of a coating medium in carbon tetrachloride or chloroform. The coating medium may be a paint, ink or lacquer. The lacquer may be based on a thermoplastic resin or a thermosetting resin. The ratio of coating medium of the carbon tetrachloride or chloroform may be in the range 10:90 parts by volume up to 50:50 parts by volume. After application of the coating medium a further coating may be applied and this further coating may be metalized. Lacquers based on polybutylmethacrylate in a xylol/butanol solvent and those based on thermosetting resins such as urea/formaldehyde resins, phenol/ formaldehyde resins and melamine/formaldehyde resins or resins comprising a mixture of a monoaldehyde with an interpolymer of acrylamide with at least one other monoethylenically and saturated monomer are specified. |
