A lever (66) is provided in a photosensitive member frame (52) of a photosensitive member cartridge (38) that accommodates a developing cartridge (39) in a cartridge accommodating portion (56). The lever (66) is engaged with an engaging shaft (51) of the developing cartridge (39), and is movable between a contact position and a separation position. When the lever (66) is in the contact position, a developing roller (43) and a photosensitive drum (54) make contact with each other, and when the lever (66) is in the separation position, the developing roller (43) and the photosensitive drum (54) are separated. This prevents the developing roller (43) from moving along with the photosensitive member cartridge (38), so that the developing roller (43) can be stably separated from the photosensitive drum (54) and a reliable separation can be achieved. The invention further relates to a process unit (21) comprising said lever (66), image forming apparatus (1) comprising said process unit (21), and a cam member (79) moved along with the opening of a cover (29), to allow release of a process unit (21) when accommodated in the image forming apparatus (1). <IMAGE>
