<p>A fault current limiter comprises a magnetically saturable core 301, a first DC coil 311 wound around a first portion of the core, with the first DC coil being arranged to saturate at least part of the core in normal conditions, a first AC coil 321a wound around a second portion of the core, wherein the first AC coil is arranged to desaturate at least part of the core during first AC half-cycles in fault limiting conditions and a second AC coil 321b wound around a third portion of the core, wherein the second AC coil is arranged to desaturate at least part of the core during second AC half-cycles in fault limiting conditions. The first and second AC coils are connected in series between a first phase AC source and a load. The fault current limiter also comprises at least one electromagnetic screen 331a, 331b placed around an appropriate portion of the core between the AC and DC coils to reduce coupling between the AC and DC coils.</p> |
