Method for producing highly dimensionally accurate half shells

A method for precision cold pressing of metal sheets has the sheet supplied with a surface relief (2) for strength. The press operates in two stages; - an initial stage where the clamp (4) is set onto the top of the relief to hold the sheet (1) for an initial press operation, and a second stage where the clamp flattens the relief followed by the final press action of the stamp (5). The process is especially suited to high quality steel sheet, or steel alloy sheet.
