1,083,488. Flat insulated conductors. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 20, 1965 [Jan. 18, 1965], No. 53788/65. Heading H1A. A strip of aluminium foil is coated on both sides by passage through a solution of epoxy, polyvinyl acetal or polyester resin and through a heating oven to cure the resin, and the irregularly coated portion along the edge is slit to leave the insulated conductor shown at step C. A portion of the foil is removed by chemical etching to leave flaps of insulating film defining the sides of a channel (step D) which is then filled with curable liquid resin (step E). The etching and subsequent treatment may be carried out after the slit insulated strip is wound into a coil. The coil is preferably first impregnated with, e.g. water so that etchant solution does not penetrate into the coil. |
