PURPOSE: A device and a method for restoring the steering of a vehicle are provided to control the steering angular velocity of a vehicle for being adjacent to the center regardless of the change of road state or vehicle load when activating a steering center restoring function after stopping the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A device and a method for restoring the steering of a vehicle comprise a center restoration button(1), a steering angle sensor(2), and a steering control unit(3). The center restoration button inputs a command for restoring the steering angle of a vehicle to the center. The steering angle sensor senses a steering angle. The steering control unit compares the sensed steering angle to a reference steering angle. The steering control unit produces the error value of a center steering angle according to the comparison result. The steering control unit sets a target steering angular velocity according to the error value. The steering control unit restores the steering angle to the center by accelerating with the target steering angular velocity.
