PURPOSE: Movie playing device and method are provided to enable users to rapidly choose a desired movie by displaying the watching state of the movie on a screen. CONSTITUTION: A movie playing device comprises the following: a movie playing unit(130) playing data of a selected movie; a display unit(140) displaying the data or state information of the data; a state information display unit(160) displaying the state information of the data on a screen; and a controller(150) controlling the playing and stopping of the data, and the displaying of the state information by control command.
