A seal assembly for a bearing chamber 40 of a gas turbine engine. The seal assembly includes a seal land 46 having a sealing surface 52 and a non-sealing surface 51 and at least one non-contact seal member which may be located on shaft 38; having a sealing surface 50 and a non-sealing surface 53. The opposing sealing surfaces 50, 52 may define a fluid flow path for a sealing fluid such as air from a compressor of the gas turbine engine. The seal assembly also includes a cooling arrangement comprising a fluid spray nozzle 64 to provide a cooling fluid jet 66 to one or both of the seal member and the seal land 46 non-sealing surfaces 53, 51. A method is also disclosed of cooling a sealing fluid 60 for a non-contact seal assembly comprising directing a cooling fluid 66 to a non-sealing surface 51 of one of a non-contact seal member and a seal land 46.
