A method of installing an offshore wind turbine provides an upper assembly (1) including a generator (3) supported on a column and having a drive axis and a hub (7). At least three rotor blades (8,9,10) are connected to the hub. On shore, the generator (3) is connected to a column upper part and one rotor blade (10) is fixed to the hub (7) in an operational position. Two rotor blades (8,9) are on shore connected to the hub (7) via a hinge connection (13,14) and are placed in a transport position. The upper assembly (1) is sailed on a barge to a foundation (23) at an offshore installation site and is lifted onto the foundation. By rotation of the hub (7) the flanges of the rotor blades (8,9) are aligned with the flanges of the hub and are interconnected while the hinging rotor blades (8,9) each time extend in a vertically downward direction. |
