A hollow valve 1 (Fig. 1) is filled with a fluid 2, e. g. water, which assumes its critical pressure and temperature at the operating temperature of the engine. The valve may be made from plain carbon steel and sealed by hydrogen copper brazing or silver soldering. Cooling rocket engines. (Fig. 7). The combustion chamber 45 and casing of the engine are provided with jackets 44, 43 respectively forming parts of a closed fluid-circulating cooling system which includes a tube 42 in heat exchange with the fuel supply line 41. The fluid in the system is one which assumes its critical temperature and pressure at the operating temperature of the engine. |
