Provided are a flame-retardant polyester resin, which is suitable for injection and extrusion molding owing to high intrinsic viscosity and has good mechanical properties such as impact strength, and a preparation thereof. The flame-retardant polyester resin consists of a dicarboxylic acid component including at least 70mol% of terephthalic acid or a derivative thereof, and a diol component including at least 70mol% of ethyleneglycol and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol. A phosphorus compound having a structure represented by a formula 1 within the polyester molecule chain is contained in an amount of 0.1-5.0wt% based on a phosphorus element. The polyester resin has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.70dl/g or higher. In the formula 1, R is a C1-6 alkyl group, allyl group, cycloalkyl group, or substituted alkyl group, allyl group, or cycloalkyl group, and n is an integer of 1-4. |
