The system has a moving mechanism moving a rear part (11) of a vehicle roof between upper front and rear positions and a lower rear position. The rear part partially overlaps a front part (10) of the roof in the front position to transform the vehicle in a pick-up type open trailer configuration. The front part is aligned with respect to the rear part in the upper rear position to transform the vehicle in a lorry/estate car type configuration. The rear part is located at a level of belt line of the vehicle in the rear lower position to transform the vehicle in a cabriolet type configuration. An independent claim is also included for a method for transforming a vehicle to a pick-up type open trailer configuration or a lorry or estate car type configuration.
