[Also in Division B2] An electrostatic precipitator in which gas being treated is subject to pressure fluctuations has a housing 1 containing a grid which is joined to a current carrying and supporting rod 12 which extends through an opening in the top of the housing where it is sealed by means of an inert gas introduced via perforated ring pipes 18, 19 into a chamber defined by a pipe section 17 which is provided at one end with an electric arc-resistant insulator 7, e.g. of quartz, and at the other end with a nozzle 26 through which the inert gas flows thereby preventing passage through the opening of the gas being treated. A slide-valve 22 made of two halves is provided above the ring pipe 19. The insulator 7 is mounted via asbestos rings 9, 10 between a flange 6 on the pipe section 17 and an annular plate 8 which is connected by thrust bolts 16 to a supporting plate 15. The latter is mounted on insulators 14 resting on an annular plate 3 on top support members 2 which are provided with shoulders 5 to which is connected the flange 6. The rod 12 extends through the plates 8 and 15 and is connected to the latter plate by plates 15a. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the flange 6 is suspended from the plate 15 by rods 27, 28 interconnected by insulators 29. A rubber block 30 is arranged between the supporting plate 15 and each insulator 14. An elastic connecting element is provided between the pipe section 17 and the edge of the opening in the top of the housing. This arrangement provides a resilient mounting for the rigid assembly comprising the rod 12, the plates 8, 15, the pipe section 17 and the nozzle 26 and their associated parts and prevents any alteration in the spacing between the rod 12 and the interior of the nozzle, which alteration would cause electric spark-overs. |
