According to the invention a pharmaceutical composition is provided comprising: artemether or arteether; and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients selected the group consisting of triglycerides comprising a minimum of 95% of saturated fatty acids with between 6 and 12 carbon atoms, triglycerides with a chain of less than 6 carbon atoms, omega-3- marine triglycerides and fish oil, rich in omega-3-acids, said composition formulated for transmucosal sublingual, transbuccal or nasal delivery for the treatment and prophylaxis of malaria. Also provided are delivery devices and kits containing the claimed composition and a method for treating using same. |
