PURPOSE: A sodium sulfur battery and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce electric resistance and improve mechanical strength by coating beta-alumina layer thinly on the outside of the porous alpha alumina tube. CONSTITUTION: A sodium sulfur battery comprises the electrolyte(30), sodium electrode and sulfur electrode. The electrolyte comprises an alpha-alumina tube(32) and a beta-alumina layer(34) coated on outside of the tube. The thickness of the alpha alumina tube is 1-2.5 mm. The alpha alumina tube is composed of porous material having a porosity of 35-70 %. The thickness of the beta-alumina layer is 5-500 microns. A manufacturing method of the electrolyte comprises the following steps: manufacturing the alumina tube; and coating the beta-alumina layer on the outer surface of the tube. |
