The case (1) has an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) heat exchanger (6) that is common for a low pressure loop and a high pressure loop of an EGR system. The exchanger includes an inlet control valve (7a) and an outlet control valve (7b), where each of the valves controls low pressure and high pressure inlet and outlet of the exchanger, respectively. The control valves are adjustable between a position allowing communication of the high pressure inlet or outlet with the exchanger and another position allowing communication to the low pressure inlet or outlet with the exchanger. An independent claim is also included for a heat engine of a car.
