<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external storage that prevents careless deletion and alteration of information in storage means and enables quick exchange of vendor-specific function data, and a control method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: An external storage includes storage means that can define a storage area into at least two areas, interface means for exchange of information between an electronic computer and the storage means, and control means for controlling the storage means and the interface means.
