The turbocharger (4) has an exhaust gas turbine (16) connected to the exhaust gas lines (12,14) of engine (2) and having exhaust gas flows (18,20). A valve (32) is arranged for variable adjustment of the exhaust gas flow (20) between closed and open positions, and a valve (34) is arranged for variable adjustment of both exhaust gas flows to be supplied to the exhaust gas turbine. For optimized adjustment of operating parameters, the valves are formed such that the respective opening states of valves are set differently depending on the state of the engine.
