An apparatus for cutting a leaf of predetermined shape out of a tobacco leaf comprises a cutting die 2, a knife 14 of predetermined shape and having an upstanding cutting edge, rollers 3 adapted to be moved over the cutting edge and to press the leaf to be cut out on to the cutting edge and guiding cams 16 associated with the knife for the rollers. A stationary blow-pipe 4 is directed across the upper surface of the die 2 and blow passages 20 are directed upwardly adjacent the die. The leaf holder 5, which swings about an axis 6, removes the cut leaf after which compressed air is supplied through a controllable valve 11 to the pipe 4 and passages 20 to blow the remaining portion of the leaf against a screen 8, having a latticed portion 9. The leaf parts fall into an opening 10. During cutting the leaf is held on the die 2 by suction applied through apertures 18.</p> |
