<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent decrease in the followability to a subject even in the case where the distance between the apparatus and the subject does not change when a focus lens is focused on the subject by continuously adjusting the position of the focus lens. <P>SOLUTION: During an operation in an operating mode in which a focus lens 104 is focused on a subject by continuously adjusting the position of the focus lens 104 under the control of a control part 115, the imaging apparatus 1 detects whether the distance between the subject and the apparatus has changed or not.
