This automatic analysis device, which executes an aspiration operation a plurality of times for the same sample, is characterized by being provided with: a sample dispensing unit (9); a liquid surface sensor that detects the liquid surface of the sample in a sample vessel (8); a computation unit (5) that computes the liquid surface height (h1) at the time of the end of a first aspiration operation from the amount of sample aspiration (V1) and the liquid surface height (h0) detected at the time of the start of the first aspiration operation among two successive aspiration operations; a recording unit (7) that records the liquid surface height (h1) computed by the computation unit (5); and a determination unit (18) that compares the liquid surface height (h2) detected at the start of a second aspiration operation following the first aspiration operation to the liquid surface height (h1) at the time of the end of the first aspiration operation, and determines the presence/absence of a fault in the first or second aspiration operation on the basis of whether or not the difference between the two liquid surface heights (h1, h2) exceeds a predetermined threshold (d). As a result, it is possible to determine whether or not the aspiration operations of the sample dispensing unit have been executed appropriately. |
