<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a limit of a dimming rate or a color shift in dimming by a lamp and to improve a thermal load or a color shift in mechanical dimming. <P>SOLUTION: A projector 100 comprises: a light source 10; liquid crystal light valves 30R, 30G, 30B; a dimming mechanism 20; an illumination optical system 40; a control circuit 60, which determines the incident luminous energy to be input to the liquid crystal light valves based on an input image signal, outputs an output image signal that is decompressed in accordance with the incident luminous energy, and generates a first control signal CTL1 designating a first dimming rate of a high-pressure mercury lamp 11 and a second control signal CTL2 designating a second dimming rate of the dimming mechanism 20 based on the incident luminous energy; an illumination drive circuit 70, which drives the light source 10 based on the first control signal CTL1; and a douser drive circuit 80, which drives a douser 21 based on the second control signal CTL2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
