<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical permanent current switch using a giant magnetostrictive element, having high readiness as a switch by adopting a giant magnetostrictive element which performs an excellent operation in a low temperature region. <P>SOLUTION: The mechanical permanent current switch using a giant magnetostrictive element comprises a giant magnetostrictive element 15 (32), which is disposed in a low temperature region 11 and whose linear dimension varies by applying a magnetic field. By opening and closing a permanent current switch 12 using a variation of the linear dimension, an off state of a current into a superconducting coil 22 or a permanent current mode of the superconducting coil 22 is generated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
