Disclosed are a battery charging system and method. A battery charging system according to the present invention includes: a first connection part connected to both ends of a battery of a charge providing vehicle; a second connection part connected to both ends of a battery of a vehicle to be charged; a converter, which is connected between the first connection part and the second connection part, converts a voltage transferred from the battery of the charge providing vehicle through the first connection part, and transfers the converted voltage to the battery of the vehicle to be charged through the second connection part; and a control unit, which controls an electrical connection between the first connection part and the second connection part and is connected to each of a BMS (battery management system) of the charge providing vehicle and a BMS of the vehicle to be charged to control a voltage conversion ratio of the converter on the basis of state information of each of the batteries, which is transmitted from each of the BMSs. |
