A method for operating a control apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention, in which the control apparatus includes a method for providing a content-converting service using a control target apparatus, comprises the steps of: searching for control target apparatuses connected to a home network; selecting any one from among contents contained in a server apparatus on the basis of content information received from at least one server apparatus among the searched apparatuses; determining, on the basis of protocol information received from at least one renderer among the searched apparatuses and said content information, whether or not the selected content can be reproduced by the renderer; and, if the selected content cannot be reproduced, making a request for the start of conversion of the selected content to any one apparatus among the searched apparatuses.
