1,139,197. Heat exchangers. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORP. 29 March, 1966 [22 April, 1965], No. 13790/66. Heading F4S. [Also in Division C7] A hollow heat exchange element 10 shown as a flat sided tube, contains a fluid-pervious sintered, metallic mass 14 extending between an inlet 17 and an outlet 18 for one heat exchanging fluid flowing through the mass. The other heat exchanging fluid flows over the outer surface of the element 10. As shown, the mass is shaped to provide fluid entry and exit passages 15, 16 within the element, and these may be of enlarged cross-section (Figs. 4-6) and of uniform cross-sectional area; or as shown, the passages 15, 16 may taper from one end to the other. The tube 10 and the pervious mass 14 are made of any suitable metal or metal alloy and may be of the same or of differing materials; steel, copper, brass and aluminium being mentioned. The mass may be made from particulate material or from woven or knitted metal wire. Methods of forming the pervious mass are described (see Division C7). |
