The method (1) involves predefining (S1) a frame rate or x-ray dose per image and another frame rate, where the latter frame rate is greater than the former frame rate. Continuous images with the latter frame rate are obtained by using an x-ray device. A mask image and an image of the filling phase are received (S2,S6) in the calculation (S7) of a resulting image of a digital subtraction angiography. Previous images of the filling phase are additionally received while calculating (S9) another resulting image of the digital subtraction angiography. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for performing a digital subtraction angiography using an x-ray device and a control and display unit.
