589942 A lawn mower with an integral chipper or shredder is disclosed. The mower has a chipper tube (12) with an upper end and a lower end; the lower end opening into the cutting space. The chipper tube has a lid (15) which is biased closed when the mower is above a predetermined ride height, the lid additionally fitted with a cut-off mechanism so that if the lid is opened when the ride height or cutting height of the mower has been adjusted to above the predetermined ride height, the cut-off mechanism will stop the mower engine. This is achieved by a wire attached to the lid pulling the motor throttle cable, to take the throttle position below that necessary to continue motor operation.
