Disclosed herein is the use of an indole compound of formula (I) in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of visceral pain, wherein the substituents are as defined within the specification, wherein preferred visceral pain is selected from secondary to irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel syndrome, pancreatitis, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, peritonitis, pericarditis, hepatitis, appendicitis, colitis, cholecystitis, gastroenteritis, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, interstitial cystitis, prostatitis, pleuritis, upper gastrointestinal dyspepsia, renal colic, or biliary colic. Use of specifically preferred compounds include: N-(3-(1-methylpyrrolidin-3-yl)-1H-indol-5-yl)thiophene-2-carboximidamide; N-(3-(3-(ethylamino)cyclohexyl)-1H-indol-5-yl)thiophene-2-carboximidamide; N-(3-(3-(methylamino)cyclohexyl)-1H-indol-5-yl)thiophene-2-carboximidamide.
